FOLK TALES IN ASTROLOGY

FOLK TALES AND ASTROLOGY- Indians are great story tellers. They hav stories for all seasons, people etc. Stories convey certain meanings sometimes hidden, but there is definitely some message to tell in all the stories. According to Srimad Bhagavata, Moon was born to Rishi Atri and his wife Anasuya. Out of all 27 daughters of king Daksha Prajapati Rohini was most beautiful. Moon saw her and fell in Love and approached the King Daksha and proposed to marry Rohini. The king stipulated that if he wants to marry Rohini, he has to marry all his 27 daughters. Moon agreed and married all the 27 daughters. But he started living happily with Rohini only. Other 26 objected and complained to their father. Annoyed King Daksha cursed Moon that it will turn Black. Due to Hues and cries of the people, and sages, the King amended the Curse saying that the Moon will increase everyday remain full on one day [Pournami] and then start reducing , and then become black for one day. [Amavasya]. In Astrology Moon refers to the personality which is a multifaceted one- Man is different at home with his wife , but may be professional at work. Man has to adept to himself for various situations prevailing at that moment. Moon represents the collective consciousness of human mind. The story tells us that the obsessed mind doesn’t heed to wisdom. Often the mind tries to extract sympathy from others like people affected by the dark nights, approached the King Daksha to pardon the Moon. In Astrology there are 27 Constellations like 27 wives of the Moon. There are two fortnights – one Bright and another Dark. Every month has one Amavasya and One Poornima. Moon owns the constellation Rohini and is exalted in Taurus Sign where Rohin is situated. Like this Our ancestors waved stories or folklore to convey the fundamentals of Astrology to the general public.
