GANDANTA DOSHA

BPHS Ch. 92. Remedies from Gandanta Birth 1. The Sage said. O Brahmin! Gandanta is of three kinds, namely of Tithi, Nakshatra and Lagna. Birth, travelling and performance of auspicious functions, like marriage etc., during Gandanta are likely to cause death of the person concerned. 2. O Maitreya! The last 2 Ghatikas of Purna Tithi (5th, 10th, 15th) and the first 2 Ghatikas of Nanda Tithi (1st, 6th, 11th) are known, as Tithi Gandanta. 3. Similarly the last two Ghatikas of Revati and first two Ghatikas of Ashvini, the last two Ghatikas of Aslesha and first two Ghatikas of Magha and the last two Ghatikas of Jyeshtha and first two Ghatikas of Mula are known, as Nakshatra Gandanta. 4. The last half Ghatika of Pisces and first half Ghatika of Aries, the last half Ghatika of Cancer and first half Ghatika of Leo, the last half Ghatika of Scorpio and first half Ghatika of Sagittarius are known, as Lagna Gandanta. 5. Amongst these Gandantas the last 6 Ghatikas of Jyeshtha and first 8 Ghatikas of Mula are known, as Abhukta Mula. 6-8. Now I will tell you the remedial measures to be adopted to release the child, born during Gandanta, from its evil effects. The father should see the child born only on the morning next to the end of the days of Sutaka, or on any auspicious day after the performance of the remedial measures. The remedial measures are giving a bullock in charity in the case of Tithi Gandanta, giving a cow with calf in charity in the case of Nakshatra Gandanta, giving gold in charity in the case of Lagna Gandanta, performing Abhisheka of the child along with father, if the birth is in the first part of Gandanta and along with mother, if the birth is in the second part of Gandanta. 9-11. Performance of Puja on the holy Kalash of the idol of the deities of Tithi (in case of Tithi Gandanta), Nakshatra (in case of Nakshatra Gandanta) and Lagna (in case of Lagna Gandanta), made of 16 Masas, 8 Masas, or 4 Masas of gold, as may be possible, followed by Havan and Abhisheka, according to procedure already described earlier. At the end as many Brahmins, as may be possible within ones means, should be fed. These remedial measures will ensure long life, good health and prosperity for the child.

GANDANTA NAKSHATRA

"Gandanta is the junction points in the zodiac that a particularly connected with times of soul growth. This is the position of the zodiac where the solar and lunar zodiac meet. These points are at the junctions of Pisces(Revati) - Aries (Ashwini), Cancer (Ashlesha) - Leo (Magha), Scorpio (Jyeshta) - Sagittarius (Mula). They are especially powerful in giving karmic effects...... 'Gand' means a knot. 'Anta' means the end. Gandanta means the knot at the end. ...Gandanta represents a knot within ourselves, a deep issue, which are trying to reconcile with....These issues make themselves felt in the life of the individual, through personal relationships, traumatic events or inner struggles." It can be either very challenging time or "very good position,....as it can create balance as you learn to come to terms with the reality today." Sreenivas Desabhatla

HOW LONG SHALL I LIVE?

HOW LONG SHALL I LIVE? How long shall I live? We never think about such a question when we are young, but as we cross 45 and we have responsibilities not only for our own self but for our children and family, such a question may come to our mind. As an astrologer, we are also asked this question sometimes by our clients. We usually avoid answering such a question, but in our life prediction report we do indicate the longevity of a person. In astrology, we have different methods for calculating longevity for a person under normal circumstances. What it means is that longevity calculations made for normal circumstances will not apply for unnatural circumstances. Unnatural circumstances could mean a natural catastrophe like fire, flood, earthquake or war or in today’s world it could mean terrorist attack, plane crash or any accident etc, when many people die at the same time. Obviously in every body’s chart, the longevity calculations will not point that his/her life span has come to an end. In Vedic astrology, it is clearly stated that no longevity calculation should be made for a chart unless the person has reached at least the age of 20. Before that there are methods to calculate whether there is a yoga for infant or childhood or teenage mortality. Even if such a combination exists in a chart, one has to study very carefully whether there are combinations for cancellations of such Yogas in the chart or not. Today’s advancement in medical sciences and increase in average mortality of people in general , the calculation of such early age mortality has lost much of it’s relevance. Further because of increase in mortality factor of human race in general, we need to redefine the age limit for ‘Short”, “Medium” and “Long” longevity condition in the chart that can be computed from the chart.. Further I must clarify that longevity calculation and when a person will die is a very complex calculation, and is almost impossible to arrive at the exact date or period for any astrologer. As an astrologer we are at best equipped to give an approximate period, which is again subjected to all modern advancement in medical science of life support systems and organ transplants etc. Hence, the longevity indicated here should be indicative and not definitive. Further one has to calculate the Marak dasha (Fatal Period) in one’s chart to determine when a person will die. A man may encounter fatal periods in his/her dasha calculations but he may not necessarily die because he is yet to completed his longevity as ordained in his chart. Also vice versa, a person may cross his longevity level but because of absence of Marak combination in Dasha system he may actually live longer than the longevity specified in longevity calculation Sreenivas Deasbhatla

FOLK TALES IN ASTROLOGY

FOLK TALES AND ASTROLOGY- Indians are great story tellers. They hav stories for all seasons, people etc. Stories convey certain meanings sometimes hidden, but there is definitely some message to tell in all the stories. According to Srimad Bhagavata, Moon was born to Rishi Atri and his wife Anasuya. Out of all 27 daughters of king Daksha Prajapati Rohini was most beautiful. Moon saw her and fell in Love and approached the King Daksha and proposed to marry Rohini. The king stipulated that if he wants to marry Rohini, he has to marry all his 27 daughters. Moon agreed and married all the 27 daughters. But he started living happily with Rohini only. Other 26 objected and complained to their father. Annoyed King Daksha cursed Moon that it will turn Black. Due to Hues and cries of the people, and sages, the King amended the Curse saying that the Moon will increase everyday remain full on one day [Pournami] and then start reducing , and then become black for one day. [Amavasya]. In Astrology Moon refers to the personality which is a multifaceted one- Man is different at home with his wife , but may be professional at work. Man has to adept to himself for various situations prevailing at that moment. Moon represents the collective consciousness of human mind. The story tells us that the obsessed mind doesn’t heed to wisdom. Often the mind tries to extract sympathy from others like people affected by the dark nights, approached the King Daksha to pardon the Moon. In Astrology there are 27 Constellations like 27 wives of the Moon. There are two fortnights – one Bright and another Dark. Every month has one Amavasya and One Poornima. Moon owns the constellation Rohini and is exalted in Taurus Sign where Rohin is situated. Like this Our ancestors waved stories or folklore to convey the fundamentals of Astrology to the general public.

FOREWARNED REALLY IS FOREARMED.

FOREWARNED REALLY IS FOREARMED. The best reason to know the future through astrology is to prepare well, in advance. Forewarned really is forearmed. Just because you know there's the likelihood of rain ahead doesn't mean you have to get wet. Instead, you can utilise the information, and take an umbrella. That becomes possible once you're informed well in advance. Because you took the time to learn the forecast you're empowered to do something about it. People are very much afraid of seven and half years of Saturn’s Transit around their Moon Sign. But Astrologers should inform that Saturn’s Transit is not always bad for all the people. Too often people hear that they're entering a so-called "malefic Dasa” and then they freak out. They fill their minds with horrible imaginations, instead of taking wisely the next step: get more information about what that dasa means and its effects; they use this information to their advantage to empower their lives and face the situation with suitable astrological remedies and guard themselves from possible mishaps. I don't think it's helpful to think in terms of fate, because it paralyzes our will-power to take positive action and improve our karma. For this reason, it's better to think of the chart as revealing trends and likelihoods, not inevitable events. The planetary positions reveal the trends and patterns that we ourselves have set in motion in the past in our previous birth called Prarabda Karma. The best way to prepare for the future is to stay present in the moment. Use the knowledge of the future to set yourself on the right path, and then simply live your life well, chanting the name of God.

Planetary Combination for Foreign Travel

Foreign Travel and Astrology
As per the Parasara system, the houses 3, 9 and 12 signify travel. My research has shown that the 8th house also plays a very important role in deciding travel abroad. The 8th house, is the 11th from the 10th. If we go into the scriptures of the past, associations of the 8th house and travel abroad are always signified as ‘Kala Pani’, ‘ Desh Nikala’ or to be deported across the ocean. i.e. at that time, it meant that being displaced from the place where you are born and wandering in foreign lands was not a very happy situation, which was related to the value systems. The 8th house and its association with other houses like the 4th (for leaving family behind) and the 7th (for being separated from wife) need to be analysed.
The modern trend has changed from the era when Classics on Astrology was written. Travelling abroad is one of the cherished dreams of most Indians now. Large number of Indians are traveling abroad for realizing their ambition.
Purpose of travel
The purpose for which he will go abroad has to be ascertained from the lord of the 6th house (i.e. 9th from the 10th house and the 11th from the 8th house).
People visit foreign countries for various purposes some go there for vacations, some go on business trip, some students go for further higher education. But most of them go on the basis of the intension to settle there. When 4th lord is placed in 12th house then native will be more beneficial in living abroad rather than at his native place.
Primary houses for foreign journey which are 9th and 12th house fall in moveable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) or water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), then there is a possibility of foreign travel (or travel over the seas!). It is obvious from the above that Cancer is a powerful sign in this regard as it is both a moveable sign and a watery sign. Thus if the 9th or 12th houses of a horoscope fall in these signs, or if the 9th or 12th house lords fall in these signs, you may deduce that foreign travel is indicated for such natives.
For higher education one may go to a Foreign country . 4th house stands for basic education and 9th house stands for advanced courses and specializations. Association of 5th, 9th, and 12th lords in the Dasamsha indicate traveling abroad for professional reasons. These persons are usually employed as skilled professional like (scientists, professors, etc.)in abroad. If the combination of 9th and 10th lord is associated with the 12th house, the native may go on to win prestigious awards in the foreign country. When 10th and 12th lords of the dasamsha have mutual aspect or association Similar results may be expected. The concerned Planets in moveable signs indicate travels away from homeland and hence might indicate long stay abroad.
When once the Foreign Travel is confirmed then see the periods for foreign travels along the following lines.
1. Dasa/ bhuktis of Rahu, Venus, or Moon if these planets are in the 12th house.
2. Dasa/ bhukti of the 9th lord or the 12th lord, or the planets that are in association with the 12th lord
3. Sub-periods of Ketu and Rahu in the major period of Rahu.
4. When Jupiter in its transit aspects the 9th or 12th house, or aspects the 9th/ 12th house lords
5. Foreign journeys are experienced even during sade-sathi.
Directions associated with the journey: which is mostly linked with Rasi’s direction:
Rasi which represent the western side are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
When the concerned lords and Moon are placed in respective houses like 9th, 12th or 4th in these Rasis then chances are more bright that one will go to US or Canada.

Basics of Jaimini Astrology

Parashara and Jaimini Maharshi are contemporaries. Jaimini Astrology is like a corollary of Parashara System. Some basic diferences in the two systems are as follows:
Karaka

There are 7 Karakas. As per degree-min-sec occupied by planets, Jaimini Karakas are determined. Rahu and Ketu is not considered as Karaka of anything. Irrespective of position of planets in signs, their degree-min-sec is considered only in descending order as follows

1) Atma karaka (AK): Having the most degree. It is considered as strongest planet. It represents self.
2) Amatya karaka (AmK): Lesser in degree than that of AK. It is the 2nd strongest planet. It is karaka of Career.
3) Bhratri karaka (BK) : Lesser in degree than that of AmK. It is karaka of Co-borns.
4) Matri karaka (MK): Lesser in degree than that of BK. It is Karaka of Mother.
5) Putra karaka (PK): Lesser in degree than that of MK. It is Karaka of Children.
6) Gnati karaka (GK): Lesser in degree than that of PK. It is karaka of Cousins and relations.
7) Dara karaka (DK): Lesser in degree than that of GK. It is Karaka of Spouse.

Aspects (Jaimini)

In Jaimini Astrology planets aspect Signs – not houses. As we know, due to mode of action, signs have been categorized as Moveable Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn), Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) and Dual Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces).

Rules of Jaimini Aspects are as follows:

(a) A planet in a Cardinal sign aspects all the Fixed signs, except the next sign.
(b) A planet in a Fixed sign aspects all the Cardinal signs, except the sign previous to it,
(c) A planet in a Common sign aspects the other three Common signs.

Let me clarify these rules through examples.

Suppose a planet is in Aries, then as per rule (a) it should aspect fixed signs Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius except Taurus.

Again, suppose a planet is placed in Taurus, then as per rule (b) it should aspect Cancer, Libra and Capricorn except Aries.

Again, suppose a planet is in Gemini, then as per rule (c) it should aspect Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

Dasha System

Jaimini Dasha-systems are based on Signs so, it is called Rashi Dasha. Dasha order of 6 signs is direct and of rest 6 signs is indirect. The dasha period of any sign can be at most of 12 years and at least of 1 year. There are many Dashas in Jaimini System. But, Chara Dasha, Sthira Dasha, Niryana Shoola Dasha and Navamsha Dasha have been found suitable for all horoscopes while rests are conditional Dasha Systems:

Yoga

Like Parashari System, in this system also there are yogas like Rajyoga, Dhanyoga, Arishtayoga etc but these are quite different from that of Parashari system. These yogas are considered from the position, aspect and conjunction of Jaimini Karakas.

Karkamsha

The navamsha sign of Atma Karaka is called Karkamsha.

Arudha Lagna

Arudha Lagna is found by counting so many signs from the Lagna lord as it is away from the Lagna. For example, say Aries is Lagna sign and its lord is Mars placed in 5th sign Leo. Since, from Lagna Sign, Lagna Lord (Mars) is 5 sign away so, Arudha Lagna will 5th sign from the position of Lagna Lord (Mars, who is in Leo). From Leo 5th sign is Sagittarius.

Exception: The Arudha Lagna (AL) cannot be in the same house nor in the 7th house from the Lagna.

a) While doing the calculation, if AL falls in the Lagna then AL will be the 10th house from the Lagna.
b) Likewise, if AL falls in the 7th house then AL will be the 4th house from the Lagna.
Upapada

Upapada is found by counting so many signs from the 12th house lord as it is away from the 12th house. For example Pisces sign is rising in 12th House and Jupiter is 3 sign away placed in Taurus. Therefore, Upapada will be in 3 sign away (i.e. Cancer) from the position of Jupiter.

Intrepreting Varga Charts- Dasamsa

1. Dasamamsa chart can pinpoint factors causing delays and temporary disappointments in profession.

2. Dasamamsa Lagna shows fame related to work, Lagnesh shows attitude and motives in work (Dasamamsa).

3. Second house shows investments and group whilst second lord shows source of it and group which you belong to.

4. Third house is related to agreements and communications, whilst third lord shows short journeys.

5. Forth house is seen for analysing property, office, business located and the lord shows personal secretary - someone you trust, very close and crucial.

6. Fifth house shows employees in business. When it is strong brings higher promotions.Fifth lord shows immediate subordinates.

7. Sixth house shows staff functions, whilst its lord brings enemies causing damage.

8. Lord of seventh house shows our public relations; if
Mercury is the lord then the person has a pleasing personality - saumya,

Jupiter brings good advice and Mars can be a challenging to everybody in office.

Shani criticizes everyone, so if malefic lord has relation with the seventh lord then public relation may be bad. House is related to type of business, if malefic is there people can become very jealous.

9. Eighth house shows loans and debts which is good for business, if there is malefic then its inauspicious to be engaged in business activities, eight lord brings troubles.
10. Ninth house shows government, law and ninth lord stands for guide and advisors.

11. Tenth house shows company career. It is auspicious to pray to the Deity of that planet and put it in office for achieving success.

12. Eleventh house shows friends in group and the lord shows training development.

13. Twelfth house bring secret enemies and even one benefic therein is a huge blessing for the native.

14. If houses and lords are strong and well-placed then one meets with fortune related to that part of work. The native gets the opposite effects for weak and afflicted grahas.Job/buisness connected to strong graha (avastha) will be a source of success and money. Neecha graha can bring skill and finances but also lot of stress.

Principles of Interpretation of Dasamamsa Chart are given below:
1. In Dasamamsa Lagna / lord of the lagna assumes a tremendous significance. If Lagna is aspected by benefics, it becomes strong then it may be presumed that career of the native stands on a good foundation provided, of course, Lagna chart does not tell altogether different results.
2. If powerful Sun is posited in upachaya houses aspected by Jupiter, native is likely to get recognition and eminence in career.
3. If Dasa lord is strong in lagna chart and poised to give good results but lacks adequate strength in Dasamamsa, such Dasa lord may create uncertainties, under critical sub – periods. A sub dasa lord unfavourably placed in Dasamamsa from Dasa lord and afflicted with malefic may even temporarily hold up anticipated results.
4. Planets in tenth house in Dasamamsa during their ruling periods will better the prospects of one’s career.
5. If there is no planet in tenth house in Dasamamsa, then its lord during its ruling period will confer honour to the native.
6. Planets aspecting lord of tenth house in Dasamamsa should also be considered powerful with respect to one’s profession.
7. The period of planets in kendra of Dasamamsa will be a mile stone in one’s career.

Mercury gains some strength from being in the sign of a friend. These signs are Taurus, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius. Study Navamsha in determining the strength of a planet.
Jupiter (spiritual wisdom), the Moon (the mind in general), Ketu (the Enlightener) and Rahu (the planet that digs deeply—past superficial observations). Ideally, all of these should be quite strong, or, at least, not very weak.
Giving us one learned in Jyotish Shastra—the 5th (house of the mind, past life credit, mantra, and disciple), the 8th house (research and learning such as Sanskrit), the 9th house (Gurus, higher education, and respect for tradition) and the 12th house of meditation and Enlightenment. The ruler of the 5th house of intellect placed in the 12th house of meditation.
Venus conjunct Mars in the 1st house indicates an astrologer.
In ancient India, astrology was just as complex as it is now. But, there were no computers or even calculators. Therefore, to do astrology successfully, one first had to be an excellent mathematician.
Astrologically planets reveal different characteristics and Astrologer.

Planetary combination for Engineering Profession

The Main Engineering Branches like Civil, Electrical and Mechanical require application of force and fire to give shape to a given project in the above areas of engineering. Mars is a fiery planet, which represents energy and force, while Saturn signifies application of labour force. Mathematics and mental abilities are the integral parts of Engineering studies and Mercury provides those abilities. Venus is the planet of Planning and Designing. A person involved in the filed of Engineering, especially an Architectural Engineer require the skill of planning and designing to give shape to his project. Rahu is the planet, which gives manipulative abilities coupled with innovative ideas. The positive and constructive manipulative and innovative ideas are the main attributes for successful Engineers to plan their new projects and infrastructure for the well-being and convenience of the mankind as a whole.
The advents and rapid addition of branches in the field of engineering has made the study further complicated. The Saturn is the natural significator of employment in a nativity. The strength and good placement of Saturn is, therefore, one of most important factors for success and smoothness in professional matters. The correlation between Mars and any fiery signs in D1 provide necessary impetus for engineering studies.
