GANDANTA DOSHA

BPHS Ch. 92. Remedies from Gandanta Birth 1. The Sage said. O Brahmin! Gandanta is of three kinds, namely of Tithi, Nakshatra and Lagna. Birth, travelling and performance of auspicious functions, like marriage etc., during Gandanta are likely to cause death of the person concerned. 2. O Maitreya! The last 2 Ghatikas of Purna Tithi (5th, 10th, 15th) and the first 2 Ghatikas of Nanda Tithi (1st, 6th, 11th) are known, as Tithi Gandanta. 3. Similarly the last two Ghatikas of Revati and first two Ghatikas of Ashvini, the last two Ghatikas of Aslesha and first two Ghatikas of Magha and the last two Ghatikas of Jyeshtha and first two Ghatikas of Mula are known, as Nakshatra Gandanta. 4. The last half Ghatika of Pisces and first half Ghatika of Aries, the last half Ghatika of Cancer and first half Ghatika of Leo, the last half Ghatika of Scorpio and first half Ghatika of Sagittarius are known, as Lagna Gandanta. 5. Amongst these Gandantas the last 6 Ghatikas of Jyeshtha and first 8 Ghatikas of Mula are known, as Abhukta Mula. 6-8. Now I will tell you the remedial measures to be adopted to release the child, born during Gandanta, from its evil effects. The father should see the child born only on the morning next to the end of the days of Sutaka, or on any auspicious day after the performance of the remedial measures. The remedial measures are giving a bullock in charity in the case of Tithi Gandanta, giving a cow with calf in charity in the case of Nakshatra Gandanta, giving gold in charity in the case of Lagna Gandanta, performing Abhisheka of the child along with father, if the birth is in the first part of Gandanta and along with mother, if the birth is in the second part of Gandanta. 9-11. Performance of Puja on the holy Kalash of the idol of the deities of Tithi (in case of Tithi Gandanta), Nakshatra (in case of Nakshatra Gandanta) and Lagna (in case of Lagna Gandanta), made of 16 Masas, 8 Masas, or 4 Masas of gold, as may be possible, followed by Havan and Abhisheka, according to procedure already described earlier. At the end as many Brahmins, as may be possible within ones means, should be fed. These remedial measures will ensure long life, good health and prosperity for the child.

GANDANTA NAKSHATRA

"Gandanta is the junction points in the zodiac that a particularly connected with times of soul growth. This is the position of the zodiac where the solar and lunar zodiac meet. These points are at the junctions of Pisces(Revati) - Aries (Ashwini), Cancer (Ashlesha) - Leo (Magha), Scorpio (Jyeshta) - Sagittarius (Mula). They are especially powerful in giving karmic effects...... 'Gand' means a knot. 'Anta' means the end. Gandanta means the knot at the end. ...Gandanta represents a knot within ourselves, a deep issue, which are trying to reconcile with....These issues make themselves felt in the life of the individual, through personal relationships, traumatic events or inner struggles." It can be either very challenging time or "very good position,....as it can create balance as you learn to come to terms with the reality today." Sreenivas Desabhatla

HOW LONG SHALL I LIVE?

HOW LONG SHALL I LIVE? How long shall I live? We never think about such a question when we are young, but as we cross 45 and we have responsibilities not only for our own self but for our children and family, such a question may come to our mind. As an astrologer, we are also asked this question sometimes by our clients. We usually avoid answering such a question, but in our life prediction report we do indicate the longevity of a person. In astrology, we have different methods for calculating longevity for a person under normal circumstances. What it means is that longevity calculations made for normal circumstances will not apply for unnatural circumstances. Unnatural circumstances could mean a natural catastrophe like fire, flood, earthquake or war or in today’s world it could mean terrorist attack, plane crash or any accident etc, when many people die at the same time. Obviously in every body’s chart, the longevity calculations will not point that his/her life span has come to an end. In Vedic astrology, it is clearly stated that no longevity calculation should be made for a chart unless the person has reached at least the age of 20. Before that there are methods to calculate whether there is a yoga for infant or childhood or teenage mortality. Even if such a combination exists in a chart, one has to study very carefully whether there are combinations for cancellations of such Yogas in the chart or not. Today’s advancement in medical sciences and increase in average mortality of people in general , the calculation of such early age mortality has lost much of it’s relevance. Further because of increase in mortality factor of human race in general, we need to redefine the age limit for ‘Short”, “Medium” and “Long” longevity condition in the chart that can be computed from the chart.. Further I must clarify that longevity calculation and when a person will die is a very complex calculation, and is almost impossible to arrive at the exact date or period for any astrologer. As an astrologer we are at best equipped to give an approximate period, which is again subjected to all modern advancement in medical science of life support systems and organ transplants etc. Hence, the longevity indicated here should be indicative and not definitive. Further one has to calculate the Marak dasha (Fatal Period) in one’s chart to determine when a person will die. A man may encounter fatal periods in his/her dasha calculations but he may not necessarily die because he is yet to completed his longevity as ordained in his chart. Also vice versa, a person may cross his longevity level but because of absence of Marak combination in Dasha system he may actually live longer than the longevity specified in longevity calculation Sreenivas Deasbhatla

FOLK TALES IN ASTROLOGY

FOLK TALES AND ASTROLOGY- Indians are great story tellers. They hav stories for all seasons, people etc. Stories convey certain meanings sometimes hidden, but there is definitely some message to tell in all the stories. According to Srimad Bhagavata, Moon was born to Rishi Atri and his wife Anasuya. Out of all 27 daughters of king Daksha Prajapati Rohini was most beautiful. Moon saw her and fell in Love and approached the King Daksha and proposed to marry Rohini. The king stipulated that if he wants to marry Rohini, he has to marry all his 27 daughters. Moon agreed and married all the 27 daughters. But he started living happily with Rohini only. Other 26 objected and complained to their father. Annoyed King Daksha cursed Moon that it will turn Black. Due to Hues and cries of the people, and sages, the King amended the Curse saying that the Moon will increase everyday remain full on one day [Pournami] and then start reducing , and then become black for one day. [Amavasya]. In Astrology Moon refers to the personality which is a multifaceted one- Man is different at home with his wife , but may be professional at work. Man has to adept to himself for various situations prevailing at that moment. Moon represents the collective consciousness of human mind. The story tells us that the obsessed mind doesn’t heed to wisdom. Often the mind tries to extract sympathy from others like people affected by the dark nights, approached the King Daksha to pardon the Moon. In Astrology there are 27 Constellations like 27 wives of the Moon. There are two fortnights – one Bright and another Dark. Every month has one Amavasya and One Poornima. Moon owns the constellation Rohini and is exalted in Taurus Sign where Rohin is situated. Like this Our ancestors waved stories or folklore to convey the fundamentals of Astrology to the general public.

FOREWARNED REALLY IS FOREARMED.

FOREWARNED REALLY IS FOREARMED. The best reason to know the future through astrology is to prepare well, in advance. Forewarned really is forearmed. Just because you know there's the likelihood of rain ahead doesn't mean you have to get wet. Instead, you can utilise the information, and take an umbrella. That becomes possible once you're informed well in advance. Because you took the time to learn the forecast you're empowered to do something about it. People are very much afraid of seven and half years of Saturn’s Transit around their Moon Sign. But Astrologers should inform that Saturn’s Transit is not always bad for all the people. Too often people hear that they're entering a so-called "malefic Dasa” and then they freak out. They fill their minds with horrible imaginations, instead of taking wisely the next step: get more information about what that dasa means and its effects; they use this information to their advantage to empower their lives and face the situation with suitable astrological remedies and guard themselves from possible mishaps. I don't think it's helpful to think in terms of fate, because it paralyzes our will-power to take positive action and improve our karma. For this reason, it's better to think of the chart as revealing trends and likelihoods, not inevitable events. The planetary positions reveal the trends and patterns that we ourselves have set in motion in the past in our previous birth called Prarabda Karma. The best way to prepare for the future is to stay present in the moment. Use the knowledge of the future to set yourself on the right path, and then simply live your life well, chanting the name of God.
